Blinds Up Or Down For Privacy

After years of living in apartments i have learned the direction of a blind s slats should change depending on the location of the window.

Limiting visibility also means limiting lighting. Patio door blinds and sliding door blinds are versatile allowing complete privacy when closed and a full view when opened. For the best light coverage add hanging pleats at the top of your window. For larger wider windows or patio and sliding doors that open from side to side vertical blinds work best.

The direction up or down to close blind slats is a matter of personal preference but if you want more privacy tilt them up with the rounded side facing out. Horizontal blinds are preferred for smaller narrower and or taller windows that open up and down. Up rounded side facing out when the blinds are turned up the rounded side faces outward. By turning the blinds up you have the option of a little bit more control for a darker room if desired.

When the blinds are tilted down they could look pretty aesthetically but they provide less privacy as it creates larger gaps between the slats. Blinds turned in this direction offer more privacy and light control since the convex side faces the window blocking light or views from the outside. It gives you better privacy. When the blinds are lowered from the top small cords can be seen holding it in place which can slightly obstruct your view.

The convex side faces the window creating less space through which to view. For privacy when the blinds are tilted up they allow better light control in the room. The most popular top down bottom up shade style is the honeycomb cellular which offers the best light control and privacy. By turning the blinds up you limit the amount of visibility space directed towards the room.

Privacy should be of highest importance. Sometimes bottom up rather than top down blinds are a solution which pull up to cover enough of the window to provide privacy while you can still see out of the top but you would have to test this out i m not convinced you would be able to still see the ocean if the blinds were far enough up to obscure the road. With the blinds tilted up passers by can t see in. People won t be able to see inside when passing by.

Closed in the inside up direction blinds may not have as soft an appearance but there is greater control of daylight entering the room.
